Torre Estrela

What a treat this was. The highest peak in mainland Portugal.

Multiple routes up and down. My choice was the 18 miles from Seia which averaged 5% (1450m of climbing).

The final 800m out and back to the summit was agonisingly tough when tired and hungry!

The descent into Manteigas was exhilarating but treachorous. The straight section was narrow and the central white line often dissapeared into the side as the road kinked regularly.
